History of the Austin SERTOMA Club
The Austin Sertoma Club was chartered November 23, 1963. Our club has been active in the Austin Community for 48 years and we welcome anyone who wishes to contribute to community service to visit and join our membership.
Our members meet weekly to hear informational and educational speakers and to network. We enjoy several socials each year and we participate in meainingful projects which have real impact on our community.
Throughout our history, Austin Sertoma has aided many groups - including the Austin Cerebal Palsy Center, The Vaughan House, Seton Hospital's Neonatal Center, St. David's Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, Retired Senior Volunteers Program, Children's Shelter, Easter Seals, Assistance League of Austin, Texas School for Deaf Students, many Austin AISD shools and their PTA's and the Seedling Foundation.
In 1978, Austin Sertoma established an endowment fund in the memory of former President Gene Cervenka. Income from the fund has provided sixty-two scholarships for Texas School for the Deaf graduates who continue their education in colleges or vocational schools.
The Austin Sertoma Club's two main fundraisers are our annual Golf Tournament and the annual Pancake Breakfast. These events have raised over $125,000 for sponsorships. The Austin Sertoma Club participates in several Sertoma International projects, such as National Heritage Week, Service to Mankind Awards, the Sharp Program as well as Sertoma District events and projects.
